Karl Lagerfeld’s world is one of infinite curiousity, ours at what really goes on behind the dark sunglasses, and his at the ever changing popular culture. Every time he’s in the UK, his presence causes a fashion-wake from which we’re left in an excitable jitter.
It’s not just the famous soundbites, Choupette and the numerous i-pads. It’s his seemlingly seemless ability to juggle creative control of Chanel and Fendi, as well as his own eponymous label Karl and the more prestigious Karl Lagerfled Paris, nevermind shooting Victoria Beckham for Vogue Paris.
And while his new capsule collections for Karl and Karl Lagerfeld Paris may have an Olympic theme, last week it was the man himself who was the biggest show in town as he launched his pop-up store at Selfridges.
With the Karl labels’ emphasis on androgynous streetwear, stiff colours and a muted palette, the brand is our chance to make like a mini-Karl and step into his world – or at the very least have his macquette silhouette on our t-shirt.
