A unique installation by artist & designer Brett Westfall, longtime collaborator of Comme des Garçons & member of the Dover Street Market Paris umbrella, lands at Sorry Thanks I Love You (STILY) in Sydney this July over four weeks.

So-Cal born Westfall is a multi-disciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, assemblage, installation, fashion, video, film, music and photography. His brand WESTFALL began with the idea of extending his ideas into clothing design that would read like poetry.

For this installation, canvas paintings and wooden pallets feature as walls, interlocking bicycles make up the roof and each hand-painted artwork incorporates Westfall’s signature motifs, hand-crafted and distressed style. “FRESH”, strawberries, and Westfall’s daughter’s version of “Snoppy” add a personal touch to the mix of eclectic found objects. STILY’s adjacent cafe is also in on it, serving a Westfall-inspired menu including custom-made treats from Tokyo Lamington and Gelato Messina in exclusive flavours.

The launch coincides with Westfall’s inaugural art showcase in Australia and to complement Westfall’s FW24 collection and mark the project, STILY and Westfall have co-designed a custom t-shirt, available exclusively in- store at STILY.

Sorry Thanks I Love You has an ongoing partnership with Dover Street Market Paris Brand Development and in addition to Westfall, STILY also offers DSMP BD labels Sky High Farm, Honey Fucking Dijon, and the recently introduced New York-based, Vaquera at their Westfield Sydney store.

Gucci x Dover Street Market

10.06.2016 | Fashion | BY:

Wunderkid Alessandro Michele can seemingly do no wrong. This month, the creative visionary behind Gucci has teamed up with London’s Dover Street Market to launch a limited-edition capsule collection that will be sold exclusively through the Haymarket’s coolest hangout.

This is not the first time the two brands have come together, in fact Gucci and DSM are old flames. Last year the brand opened a shop-within-shop at Dover Street Market in Ginza, Tokyo and has twice taken over Dover Street Market Ginza’s Elephant Room.

To celebrate the collaboration, a limited-edition book about Gucci entitled Epiphany will be launched in London on June 12th. Having sold out in New York, this offers a rare chance to have a copy signed by its creator Ari Marcopoulos – the ultimate coffee table addition.

And what of the collection itself? The new collaboration takes in the full spectrum of menswear staples, from cotton crew necks to pyjama trousers. Each piece is adorned with signature detail and romantic embellishment, in line with the ‘Gucci Garden’ aesthetic. Think a tree design on the back of a shirt, rabbit patches on denim jackets and studded detail. Throughout the capsule collection, the Gucci label has been designed with a red rather than white background, ensuring each piece is denoted as truly unique.

As London Collections: Men kicks off, there has never been a better time to adorn yourself in Alessandro Michele’s finery: purchase immediately.

The limited-edition Gucci Dover Street Market menswear capsule collection will be available from the 12th June at Dover Street Market Ginza, London, New York and Beijing.

Dover Street Market’s 10th Anniversary Celebrations

28.08.2014 | Fashion | BY:

Dover Street Market, the oh-so-stylish retail outpost from Japanese label Comme Des Garçons, is about to break its conspicuous social media silence with the launch of its Instragram, @doverstreetmarketlondon.

While it is obviously not the first fashion brand to turn to the world wide web for creative inspiration, it is somewhat surprising given that, until now, DSM has been abstemious when it comes to social networking. So what has prompted this move online?

The Instagram heralds a series of celebrations to mark DSM’s ten-year anniversary. Since opening its doors in London on 10 September 2004, DSM has well and truly established itself as a fashion haven, and these festivities will be its crowning moment. The entire store will undergo some exciting changes, and the exclusive collaborations will have fashionistas in a frenzy.

After three days of closure, the store will reopen on September 1, with a completely transformed basement and second floor, while the first floor will be entirely given over to Louis Vuitton for the duration of AW14. The Rose Bakery will be enlarged, as will the jewellery and wallet display on the ground level. The basement will be home to a new NikeLab, to be celebrated by the release of a special edition shoe, and Tokyo’s Good Design Shop (a collaboration between Comme Des Garçons and D & DEPT). There will be event spaces dedicated to different designers that will change each week, and four open days throughout September when these designers will be in store to greet customers.

Perhaps most exciting will be ‘Market Street Dover’, some temporary market stalls that will be set up all through the building selling special collaborations and products celebrating ‘ten years future and past’ of DSM. The stalls will be hawking a bevvy of limited-edition creations from Sacai, Simone Rocha, Rick Owens and Phoebe English, to name but a few.

The festivities will kick off on September 1 with the launch of Pharrell Williams’ GIRL fragrance, as well as the unveiling of an installation designed by Comme Des Garçons’ creative director Rei Kawakubo that will cover the entire building’s façade. A happy birthday indeed!

Comme des Garçons x Hermès

07.02.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

What do you get when you combine one of the most influential designers from the East with one of the most prestigious luxury brands of the West? A limited edition line of silk scarves entitled Comme des Carrés to be exact.

Fusing together Rei Kawakubo’s eye for the all things off-kilter with Hermès’ reputation for craftsmanship and quality, the capsule collection is  comprised of five Black and White styles in everyone’s favourite non-colours, plus six Colour scarves printed with geometric patterns such as gingham and stripes. The former will be exclusive to Comme des Garçons stores in Paris, New-York and Aoyama-Tokyo, whilst the latter will be launched at the Dover Street Market retail venues in London and Tokyo.

“In our project together, rather than wanting to wear the scarves, I was looking forward to the change that would happen when I added something to the beautiful ‘paintings’ of Hermès scarf designs. I think through the addition of abstract images, we have transformed the scarf and created something new,” explains Kawakubo.

Mission most definitely accomplished.

Trompe It!

18.07.2012 | Blog | BY:

Mulberry pretty much have the luxury bag market covered, but for those who demand something with more wit and edge from their fashion they’ve come up with the fabulous trompe l’oeil  Maisie bag.

Using heat-moulded technology, the exclusive range features three brand new styles, North South Tote, East West Tote and Pouch in Black, Oak or Flame colours.

Having remoulded Mulberry’s heritage, the special collection will be available from Tokyo and London’s Dover Street Market store on 20 July, naturally, before rolling out in September.

The DSM Takeover

14.10.2011 | Art , Blog , Fashion | BY:

Dover Street Market is engulfed by a variety of installations this week, all in celebration of London’s Frieze Art Fair.

The work of Brazilian/French artist duo Vivid Astro Focus encases the ground floor entrance, creating a 360-degree tunnel of vibrant paintings, which the DSM team is calling it “one of the greatest installations we have ever done”. Three stories upwards resides an exhibition of creations by heel-less shoe God/Daphne Guinness favourite Noritaka Tatehana and New Yorker ceramicist/sculptor James Salaiz.

The store is also exclusively hosting Dr Marten’s Bespoke in its basement event space, where the iconic boots can be completely customised, right down to the last eyelet.

If you ever needed an excuse to get lost in Dover Street Market for a few hours, this is it.
